Zakat di Malaysia — Apa yang Menjadikannya Unik?
Malaysia's Zakat system stands apart from most Muslim-majority countries because it is institutionalised at the state level, integrated into the national tax system, and encompasses asset classes — like EPF savings, ASB unit trusts and Tabung Haji — that require specific rulings from each state's religious authority. Understanding how these work is essential before calculating your annual Zakat correctly.
Nisab Malaysia 2025/2026 — RM13,500 to RM29,740+?
In Malaysia, the Zakat Nisab is based on 85 grams of gold (the Shafi'i standard, which is Malaysia's official Madhab). Because gold prices fluctuate daily, the MYR Nisab changes constantly. In 2025/2026, the range has been approximately RM13,500 to over RM29,740 depending on the prevailing gold price at the time of calculation and which state's Majlis Agama Islam you refer to. All 14 states use the 85g gold standard — but the exact ringgit figure differs because each state may use a different reference date or gold price source. Use the rate bar above to enter today's gold price per gram for the most accurate Nisab figure.
EPF (KWSP) dan Zakat — Perlu Bayar atau Tidak?
EPF savings are one of the most frequently asked questions in Malaysian Zakat. The ruling varies slightly between states, but the general principle adopted by most Malaysian Majlis Agama Islam is that Zakat is due on EPF savings. There are two common approaches: first, pay Zakat on the amount withdrawn from EPF during the year; second, pay Zakat on the total EPF balance if it exceeds the Nisab and a full Haul has passed. Some states like Selangor have specific EPF Zakat guidelines. Check with your state's Zakat authority or use their online portal for a precise ruling.
ASB dan Amanah Saham — Zakat atas NAV
Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) and other unit trust investments are zakatable in Malaysia at their current Net Asset Value (NAV). If you hold ASB units, the current market value of those units on your Zakat calculation date forms part of your zakatable wealth. Dividend income credited but not yet withdrawn is included. Enter the total current value of all unit trust holdings in the EPF/ASB tab above.
Tabung Haji — Zakat Wajib
Tabung Haji savings are explicitly zakatable. The Tabung Haji Board itself facilitates Zakat deduction on behalf of depositors — many account holders opt for automatic Zakat deduction directly through Tabung Haji. If you have already paid Zakat on your Tabung Haji savings through this automatic mechanism, you do not need to include that amount again in your manual calculation. If not, include your full Tabung Haji balance in the savings tab.
Zakat Rebate on Malaysian Income Tax
One of Malaysia's most beneficial tax features for Muslims: Zakat paid to a recognised state Majlis Agama Islam qualifies as a direct rebate against your income tax payable — not merely a deduction from taxable income. This means every ringgit of Zakat you pay reduces your tax bill by the same amount (up to your total tax liability). Keep your official Zakat receipt from the relevant state body to claim this rebate when filing your tax return with LHDN.
